Sushi commission

This is a finished product of a commission I did earlier this year.
The client requested a sushi-like character- providing an image to use for reference on the style.

I attempted a style so the viewer would be able to recognise the image and subject from afar- since the commission was created to be a profile or banner. I decided on the subject having relatively thick lines for visibility, and bright colours to grasp attention from the viewer.

I came up with several designs however, it was decided that the character with a face on both rice and fish will be used. A background with a sushi platter was also requested so I looked up some references on what sushi platters commonly consist of. Such as; pickled ginger, wasabi, and soy sauce on the side.
